Sari skirt with boots

I finally actually wore my sari silk skirt Friday. I paired it with this aqua tank for a tonal look, and then since it was cool, I finally got to wear my western boots, too! First official outing for both of those pieces.

I discovered a handknit cardi (from last year) that went pretty well, but I didn't end up actually wearing it — the boots gave me plenty of warmth for the day's temps — I didn't need wool (besides socks). As the weather continues to cool (if it does), I'm looking forward to wearing this with the sweater, though; I like it better that way.

This felt very experimental, maybe even daring when I put it on. But over the course of the day, I grew comfortable and liked it.

So, what do you say? Thoughts?

And my long skirt came this weekend, too! I'll be sharing it once I figure out what to wear with it. :)

Very nice. I think the cardigan pulls it all together. Cute boots.

It's a gorgeous colour on you! And I am in awe of that phrase "I discovered this hand knit..."

    What great colors on you!

I feel like the boots seem a bit heavy with the outfit without the cardi, but with it, they look good. Do you have a short denim jacket? That would be another great way to top off the outfit.

The fabric in that skirt is gorgeous!  I love how the sweater and top pick up the different colors in the skirt and you have all different tones together of the same color. It's so great that you can wear it without the sweater as well. I think the boots are so cool, and they bookend your hair really well.  I can see why you felt so good today in this today - you should have!

Beautiful skirt ! I love it with th boots too. You look great !

Eeee, you look adorable! I do think it looks better with the cardi, but weather is what it is. I'm sure we'll be cursing the cold soon enough.

I love that you say the outfit started to feel more natural as the day went on. That's totally how I felt about my hat (a new style for me) yesterday. Sometimes, something that feels awkward or trying too hard at first, soon becomes like a second skin.

    Thanks, donnat!

Suz: I knew I didn’t have the sentence clear, ack! (And then I went to edit for clarity, and I still couldn’t get it right.) I actually meant mostly that I discovered that it coordinated. Although there is an element of re-discovering pieces that we haven’t worn for quite a few months, isn’t there?

Janet: I do have a denim jacket, and it’s much shorter than the cardigan, although maybe only short-ish. I’m almost flustered I didn’t think of trying it! Although I was being intentionally tonal to counteract how experimental it felt. Trying the denim jacket is a good idea, thanks.

Sarah: Thank you! It makes me feel good to hear you say that.

    Momo: Thanks!

Jenn: Yes, exactly! And I totally love your hat; I have a felt hat like that on my wish list / shopping list, too.

Lovely colors, just beautiful!  For this look, I think you do need the pretty sweater to balance out the boots.

What a GORGEOUS color on you... I think you look fabulous and the skirt is stunning ☺
Those boots are so cool.... I absolutely love them!

  • replied 9 years ago

These are gorgeous colours on you! Wow! And I love your sweater, it works so perfectly with the colour scheme. Great boot-hair and specs bookending, too. Nicely chosen!

To Janet's point on the boots, I agree it might be nice to create a counterbalance. If it's too hot for a topper, maybe a chunky necklace?

Is the skirt reversible? I think I may have a similar skirt, and love the versatility of having 2 skirts in one, it's a nice option for travel.

Oh my goodness, this pushes ALL of my buttons.

    --teal? Check!
    --handknit sweater? Check!
--skirt with bare legs and boots? Check!
    --funky pattern mixing? Check!

Obviously I love this. I want that skirt.

    Very cute outfit!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Looks great! I like it with the cardi best, or like someone above suggested, a denim jacket.

    Twirly Turquoise Fabness.

You're a honey, Word Lilly. Had to tell you.

  • Word Lily replied 9 years ago

Thank you, LavenderMoon, Ankita, Celia, Elly, cjh, Sterling, Smittie, Karie!

Aliona: Thank you! I’m wondering if maybe just putting my hair down (or wearing a top with short sleeves instead of a tank) would have been enough. I like the look of chunky necklaces sometimes, but I have trouble finding ones that a) aren’t too heavy and b) don’t make me itchy. What do you think, Janet? I think technically the skirt is reversible, but I haven’t tried it that way yet. You can also tie it different ways, to make it a top, or a dress, since it’s got the two layers. It didn’t get too wrinkly, either, which would be a bonus for travel.

Diana: Teal is one of my best colors, I love it. I honestly think it was the bare leg and boots that felt so experimental — almost daring, honestly — to me. But I liked it, yay! And the pattern mixing is part of the deal, with the two-layer skirt. I got the skirt from Darn Good Yarn, fwiw: http://www.darngoodyarn.com/cl.....ap-skirts/ No two are alike, so you can’t pick your fabrics (you can tell them what colors you like/dislike). But I’m liking the two I’ve gotten.

Angie: Thank you! Does that mean I’m sweet? ;) I’ll take it.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    VERY sweet.

  • Cococat replied 9 years ago

What a cute outfit! I would never think to wear boots like that and it looks great on you.

  • Word Lily replied 9 years ago

CocoC, I wouldn't have either, but the urging of several YLFers made me try it. :)

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous color on you.  And the cowboy boots make me smile.  I am sporting mine today too.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love the color of the skirt and top and the combination with the boots. Agree it looks less seasonally confused with the cardigan.

  • Word Lily replied 9 years ago

Thanks, Lisa! Cowboy boots for the win! :)

Shevia: I was a bit worried about that regardless of the top — the skirt feels pretty lightweight, and the boots are definitely warm.

  • Maneera replied 9 years ago

    I really love this! Fabulous-ness!!!!

Teal and Aqua are gorgeous on you. That cardigan really pulls the look together. And this skirt is so made for you! Love the boots too...you look as pretty as you look happy! :D

  • Word Lily replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, Maneera! :)
