WIW to Railroad Days and a normal day

Saturday we took a day trip to Railroad Days — 2.5 hours in the car followed by very crowded train displays at several locations, in the heat (it got up to 95°) and then back home.

I threw on a baggier pair of jeans, which necessitated the belt. And a lightweight cotton tank. Brown Birks from a few years ago. I added the hat and scarf for sun protection (and sunglasses, but they're not pictured).

And then today's outfit, just staying at home with the 3-year-old, mostly. I've always hated this tee, because of the raglan lines, but I like the volume over these somewhat slimmer jeans.

Also, trying out the semi-tuck.

Thoughts? I don't really feel like I'm expressing myself today, especially, but it does work for my day.

I like the first outfit - the hat and scarf.
I'm kinda a maxilmist when it comes to dressing and love a third piece, a dramatic piece in the form of a necklace. I feel that look 2 is wonderful but for my eye - I would like to see a long necklace or some sort of accent piece.  The half tuck looks good but I think I'm agreeing with you I'm not sure I like were the shoulder is hitting on you.

Thanks, Frannie! I've hated raglans on me for quite a long time, but then I read that Angie says they're supposed to be good for pears, and since I have this one ... I guess I'm thinking about it again.

#1 is so fun & colourful! I can see why you're nervous about the idea of being a soft summer. ;) Anyway, I am in awe that you can wear denim when it's in the 90s. Looks great!

I like #2 as well, but I agree w Frannie that a long necklace would add a good finishing touch. I think maybe the sleeves are too wide/baggy, and that's what's throwing the shoulder line off a bit vs the raglan seams. I like the semi tuck.

Unrelated, but your mirror has a gorgeous frame!

I really do like color! :D

re: denim in the 90s, let's just say I don't have many options. My wardrobe the last few years is miniscule.

Thanks for your input — I agree that a long necklace might help, but a) I don't have any (good ones?) and b) it's the kind of piece I'm really unlikely to put on unless I'm going out (and dropping off / picking up the boy doesn't really count. The sleeves are wider than I usually wear, but I'm not entirely sure that's the problem. It's a possibility, though.

And yeah, we really like this mirror, thanks. :)

I think both looks matched the activities perfectly...let's face it some days are hard to dress up for (says me still sitting here in paint splattered clothes!)

I haven't followed you colour analysis thoughts but I think it is only a guide - if colour makes you happy then wear it.  There will always be some brighter ones you can choose.  I like the look of the kimono/cardigan in your first pic.  I can't see an issue with the tee in pic 2.

    Thanks for the boost, Kiwigal!

I haven't posted formally about color (yet), just in comments here and there. In the first pic that's actually a lightweight woven cotton scarf. I have it spread out in the photo to cover my shoulders, shawl-like.

Love that bright scarf. You definitely should wear colour... It goes well with your cheerful personality and that warm smile.

I like #2 - sometimes we have to dress in a practical way and whimsy must take a backseat. 60% of my days are like that too! You did good!

Outfit 1 is perfect for an outing on a hot day. I like the hat and scarf and how all the colors look on you--really pretty! And you are mistress of the semi-tuck in #2--just perfect. I like the laid-back feel of this outfit.

  • Word Lily replied 9 years ago

    Heh. Thanks, Maneera!

And Firecracker: I'm new to the semi-tuck, so thank you!

Interesting that raglans are difficult for you - I've always really liked them on me, but have a hard time getting them to fit perfectly  (and consequently have maybe one or two).

Your semi-tuck is perfect, like FireCracker said.  I've ended up really enjoying the semi-tuck trick.

And yeah, sometimes real life is boring to dress for, isn't it?  Do you do casual skirts?  (And do you have any?)  I think they'd be a good summer alternative to jeans in the 90s :)

And Railroad days sounds like fun!  We're they in NP?  I'll bet your boys enjoyed them.

@Amiable: I'd like to do casual skirts, but I don't have any right now. I think I'd actually love a closet full of long skirts, but I can never find what I want (natural fibers being the most difficult).

Railroad Days was actually in Omaha, we were at Lauritzen Gardens and Durham Museum. And yes, A especially *loved* it.
